06.10.2006 16:25 dsns - anybody out there?
i wasnt looking in the forums for a long time - surprisingly still many people bother around with old dsns. many known bugs are in it and using microsofts raw sockets is out of date too (deinstalling a bunch of patches is annoying) of course there is a solution for all that probz. There was less time in the last years developing it, because of a full time job, a little son and ..... many things changed. if you want motivate me, write problems/feature requests to nul AT dsns DOT net - instead of writing in the forums (lordi forgot a mail-option if new entries are written - so i dont notice them) if there is interest there will be a bugfixed much better version. i wont promise release dates ;-)

29.06.06 15:34 Update KB917953 (MS06-032)
KB917953 disables raw sockets again, like KB913446 and KB893066 did.
IF YOU WANT TO USE DSNS DEINSTALL KB917953 + KB913446 + KB893066!
(remember: deinstalling security patches may be a security risk)

20.02.06 23:37 Update KB913446 (MS06-007)
KB913446 disables raw sockets again, like KB893066 did.
So dont install it if you want to use dsns. Summary how
to use depreciated dsns <= 1.24 on windows xp:
(1) disable firewall (start->execute net stop sharedaccess
may not be sufficient in all cases, disable it like described
below)
(2) uninstall KB893066 via Control Panel->Software
([x] show updates)
(3) uninstall KB913446 via Control Panel->Software
([x] show updates)
I know its ugly to uninstall important patches in order
to run some old scanner software - beware that it could
be a security risk for you - but at the moment there is
no other way to use the raw sockets on windows like old
dsns does.
Of course we dont need microsofts support for raw sockets
on windows to send manually crafted ip packets - there is
an easy way to do it without os-support, but due to lack
of time the implementation of it is already working but
is not ready to be released here. i cant promise a release-date
for it - because too many other things with higher priority
have to be done first ;-/ sorry guys!

25.04.05 23:37 Update KB893066 (MS05-019)
Microsoft strikes again - disabling RAW Sockets support
with Update KB893066. Disabling Firewall (net stop sharedaccess)
does not work anymore. At the moment there is no other workaround
for the old (but current) version of dsns than than deinstalling
KB893066 from Software-Tab or ignoring that hotfix completely.
As Fyodor (nmap developer) said: "Pick
your poison: Install
MS05-019 and cripple your OS, or ignore the hotfix and remain
vulnerable to remote code execution and DoS. ".
28.09.04 02:30 Windows XP SP2.
Windows Service Pack2 disables Sending RAW Sockets by
default,
dsns cannot be used to scan anymore.
BUT microsoft did not remove the possibility to send over
RAW Sockets in the tcp/ip stack - just disabled it.
Takkero (djnox at libero dot it) found a work-around:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Open Control panel
2) Turn on Classic Visuallization
3) Open Administration Tools
4) Services
5) There is Windows Firewall / Internet Condivision
(ICS)
6) There I stop services and disable it in Generals setting
but I see that when u reboot pc the services start anyway
so in Connection setting on Hardwar Profile
u must set to Profile 1 DISABLED!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I verified this on a german Windows XP SP2 Pro - after
one reboot dsns works as usual. Thank You Takkero for
that workaround!
Nethertheless the next release of dsns (yes iam f******
slow) will work without FW/ICS disabled.
Regards, nul
25.04.03 02:30 Starting FAQ :)
F: Why does the 1.xx not find any results, but the 1.0
version does?
A: You forgot to select your internet-ip in General Settings/Interface.
Dsns1.0 enumerates your network interfaces in a different
order than
1.XX does - so its possible that it hits always the right
interface for
your configuration, but that was luck - until now.
16.04.03 01:54 Bug Reports
We received several bug reports regarding the 1.22 pre-release
on
Windows XP (probably) that did not show up in beta tests.
We are working on this issue. Updates soon here.
If you experience crashes with this new release please
try to re-produce and describe your actions, incl. which
probes u used, operating system,
scan speed, your internet connection-type, and simultaneos
running
applications like Kazaa or Emule.
Please send this descriptions to dsns@dsns.net.
Thank You for your support!

17.12.01 21:07 Come get some!
Do you want some mp3 files?
Here is a way I discovered how you are able to locate
users of the file-sharing tool "KaZaA" with
DSNS and access their mp3 files without running KaZaA
itself.
1- Select any dailup range
2- Add port 1214 (protocol probe: HTTP (GET), file: /)
3- Go!
After just few seconds I got following results:
217.1.x.x 1214 200 OK, KazaaClient Aug 29 2001 19:44:27
217.1.x.x 1214 200 OK, KazaaClient Aug 29 2001 19:44:27
217.1.x.x 1214 200 OK, KazaaClient 0.1
217.1.x.x 1214 200 OK, KazaaClient Aug 29 2001 19:44:27
217.1.x.x 1214 200 OK, KazaaClient Jul 5 2001 17:18:29
and so on...
4- Now open your favourite browser and goto http://*ip*:1214/
5- Have fun ;)
What do you use DSNS for? Post into the port scanning
forum.
